Andrew Sutherland – Expedition Doctor
Andrew, 31, will be the expedition doctor on the climbing phase of the expedition. Previous expeditions have been to the Arctic, Himalayas and South America. Most recently he has been the expedition doctor on two high altitude medicine research expeditions to Bolivia (http://www.apex-altitude.com). He was part of a team studying 100 students on a rapid ascent to 5200m, including a study to investigate whether Viagra relieves high altitude pulmonary hypertension. He is currently taking time out of his surgical training to complete a DPhil at Oxford University studying the effects of low oxygen levels in the liver. On EVERESTMAX he hopes neither his surgical skills or Viagra will be needed, but he will look after any medical ailments that may occur.
