Nigel Lyle - Climber Nigel Lyle, 53, is a disabled mountaineer, having lost a leg 34 years ago after an accident on the Bonatti Pillar on the Dru culminating in a dramatic helicopter rescue. He continues rock and ice climbing to a high standard and has learnt to ski, with mountaineering ascents in Britain, the Alps (including Mont Blanc on skis, and the Matterhorn with son Tony), The Caucasus (Elbrus on Skis), The Himalayas (Ama Dablam in winter (nearly!) and Kangyatsi), Canada (the Bugaboos) and South America (Ecuador Volcanoes). Nigel is the Chairman of the Lancashire Mountaineering Club and a member of the Climbers Club and the Alpine Club. He also runs the local Explorer Scout Unit in Hartford Cheshire, introducing young people to outdoor activities, and helps with the training and assessment of Cheshire Scout Leaders in Mountain activities. He is married to Jane (principal sponsor!), has three grown-up (almost!) children and is a consultant to the Chemical Industry (ex ICI) in between developing a new home, a lock house on the River Weaver, and a flat in Chamonix. At 53 and uncle to Sarah, he is the old man of the expedition and hopes the youngsters will be understanding! Contact: nigel@everestmax.com Climbing stats
